Back when I were' a lad , school daze were filled with Laughter, Tears, Fighting, Detension, Smoking and Kissing the girls behind the bike sheds and dodging classes to play Dungeons and Dragons in the park, with Exersize books or School Bags as shields and tree branches as swords... Oh,..yes, and I tried to fit some work in as well .
The Park was our playground as every tree became an ent, every large stone or rock a troll and every Park Keeper an Ogre, of which we'd dream up more spectacular deaths every night.
As a kid I read and loved Ian Livingstones (Now chairman of EIDOS Interactive) and Steve Jacksons' Fighting Fantasy Books. You just had read on to the next paragraph number to see what happened if you took the right road to Paragraph. 324 or Left road to Paragraph. 543, or,..rolled the dice,..tripped and fell off a cliff.
Of course, we just used to act out the best bits and use the book as a kind of Dungeon Master (A big kind of..), then read on properly with the Stat Sheets when you got home.
When I was a kid, they weren't any Playstations or XBox. The best we had was an ATARI mega system that played Tennis with a square block for a ball on black TV Screen.
We climbed trees, single-handedly fought dragons (School bullies), played Knocky-nine-doors and terrified the neighbours, with petrol and matches (Sorry about your front door Mrs. Hall, We just couldnt put it out!).
Anyway, What did you do as a kid, how did you spend those school nights (When 1 weeks worth of Maths homework had to be in the next morning at 9am) and Summer days.
Share your memories everyone?.
