How about this for a water power; Storm Cloud, makes a giant cloud in a room of a house that casts thunderclap, distant thunder, tempest and electrocutes random people in the room for as long as it's there. It'd probably scare people that were afraid of storms right out of the door...

While I think that machines rising up would be really cool to see in my opinion the pull into a mirror is more subtle and would be more interesting - and probably easier to pull off in an expansion (animation for machines would probably be difficult to code)
But in an ideal world, the machines would be cool.
