Well. Scaring people if fun, that's what the game is about. What I have in mind is scaring real people. I'll explain.
So you have friends you visit from time to time, which means that you have a chance to enter their bedroom. What you need is a device that does the scaring while you are away. It should be timed for the night hours, when the victim is asleep or about to.
As for "powers", you'll primarily use sound powers: whisper, wail, moan, howl, laughter . Why? Because that's what you can emulate with a hidden electronic device.
As you have already guessed, these effects can easily be reproduced and timed with a PC and some basic programming skills: collect or make a few scary or unusual sound effects in MP3 or any other format, write a small prog that does the timing, and plant the hardware near the bed. It can be disguised easily, you can cave a hole in an old book, drill a few tiny holes for the small speaker, glue it together, and there you go. As far as I know my friends, the would never notice an unknown book.
The problem is that a PC, even an old notebook is too large to fit in. A palmtop would be great, but it's just too expensive for such a game. The solution is a self-made architecture consisting of a so-called microcontroller and the necessary peripherals (storage: EEPROM, battery and speaker). I am currently researching which MC is suitable, but I really want to do that soon. What do you think. Of course, you won't see the victim running around, but they'll tell about it...
I have already done a very crude, mechanical/electric device with the same goal, and posted the case here: www.prank.org/phpBB2/vewtopic.php?t=39833
