I have not seen too many Rugby matches being here in the States. From what I've seen, It does look like one of the roughest sports out there. No equiptment?...yikes!
American football has the Blitz. It's a 10-20 yard dash to obliviate the Quarterback into a coma. I've seen some wicked hits in the NFL.
How about Hockey? 40mphs hit/check into the boards...Crunch!
NASCAR/Formula?...200mph crash into a wall? That's rough!
I love them all....maybe we should check on the injury reports.

Pads? pah I've been watching rugby ever since I could remember. If you break your arm you break your arm (i'm saying this because my arm is in a cast right now!)

Not wearing equiptment is ok if you don't mind turning 40 and eating your marmite through a straw. I have done work for some old time NFL players. Those guys are so broken and maimed, it's a wonder they can still sit on the toilet. But then again,...the millions in their bank accounts make the pain go away. BoogieBear Damien hope you get better.......

when american football was a big sport over in england i used to support the Chicago Bears and also the local amateur team , this being around 1985 or so . consequently i have seen that it imperative that the players wear armour as they can be massive guys especially linemen and some of the impacts must be earth shattering . Rugby though because of the lack of protection lends itself to some serious injuries , perhaps americans should try rugby league as the skills they learn in football would serve them well in this fast flowing physical game
