im not to tech savvy but we are looking for all the help we can get, frankly im not even sure where to start with adding a etension :/

Well, you just edit the name of the file and type the extension at the end.

i just tried opening "armybase" and when i changed it to armybase.7z it would open a windows but 7zip wouldnt open it also i tried setting it to armybase.map and still couldnt open it

Do you have Windows Explorer configured to always display file extensions?

just changed it (windows 10 file explorer) to show known file extensions

So far im not getting anything different when trying to open it in .7z .blend and the regular bsp format and i have tried a ghost as well with the same results

After renaming, I right-clicked, selected the "7-Zip" option and clicked "extract here". That worked for me. I ended up with a file that was about 40mb in size (the .BSP was only 7.5mb).

Not even if you go to Blender, select File -> Open (or something like that) and then select the file?
