Anyhoo, it's very possible to scratch yourself in that state of mind. Lots of people can experience it. I have a friend who always wakes up bruised because he tends to punch himself while sleeping (not funny, the guy's nearly dead!) And because you do it yourself, your brain anticipates the 'attack' and this might manifest in dreams. It'ls like when you dream about some dreadfull noise and you wake up to find it's you alarm clock.
