The file was only a check to see if you have write access to the savegame folder. Apparently you have. Now we need to see if the game has write access, too! When you go back into the savegame folder, do you see any files named Lastplayer.dat or files with the extensions .opt and .sav? In case you have extensions turned off, just post if you see any files at all.

Sorry for the long wait! I was away for a few days. Do you see any other files besides that one? Or is it just the .opt file and no other files?

Hmmm... There should be more files. That could mean the game isn't saving anything! Can you try the following:
- Move the .opt file to a folder outside the savegame folder. - Run the game. - Change settings. - Exit the game. - Restart the game.
Anything changed?

I moved the .opt file outside the folder like you said , I launched the game , it were already the blacklines , , I changed the settings , I restarted the game and nothing changed but it appeared another .opt file in the savegame folder !

Okay, so the game can write to the savegame folder. That at least is good news. We'll leave the game saving alone for now. Back to the black lines! Um... Under Display you can set several other options besides the screen resolution. Have you tried those? Do they do anything at all?

Let's try something difficult!
- Right-click the Ghost Master shortcut (the one you use to start the game). - Select "Properties". - Go to "Compatibility". - Check the box labelled "Run this program in compatibility mode for:". - From the drop-down list directly below that option select "Windows XP". - Leave the other settings alone for now. - Confirm by clicking the "OK" button. - Launch the game using the altered shortcut.
