HI, I would really appreciate it if someone could come up with a definitive reason as to why the game crashes for certain users. I get crashes to desktop or reboots at completely random times. I have read all the posts and tried lots of options including various versions or drivers - all of which are now the most up to date. My spec is much the same as everyone else that has problems and the problems are the same. No disrespect to anyone out there, but I've read enough "maybe it's this" or "why don't you try that?"..... Someone somewhere must know how to stop the frustrations, I bought the game for my wife and you know what they say....."Hell hath no fury...." - that was based on her... Thanks.

Welcome to PC gaming.
The thing is, you can take two identical machines (hardware wise) and one will run a game with no problems while another won't run it at all, and all possible combinations between.
At this time, there are no "officially known causes" of problems (except if your video card is unsupported or something like that), so all anyone can really do is guess, and keep trying to compile similarities from people who have the problems.
You have to realize that if the problems were that easy to figure out and diagnose, no one would have problems with games crashing to begin with, since the developers could very easily make them 100% compatable. But it's not easy at all. Sometimes, even installing some obscure piece of software can conflict with a game if it changes or re-registers different versions of DLL files that some of the windows systems use.
In short, it's a big pain in the ass =(
Sorry we can't be more helpful.. There's just no difinitive answer yet..

Post your system spec and driver versions and I will put my tiny mind to work. It would also be helpful to know this: 1. Does your machine pass all the DXDIAG tests? 2. Do any other games crash? 3. Do you live in an area with an unreliable power supply?

Thanks Kitty, I 'spose deep down that's the conclusion I came to but it's always nice to get a second opinion.
I was just hoping that maybe there was a 'cure all' out there somewhere....
It is such a shame as it really is a cool game and I guess I'll just have to return it...
Thanks again.

Systems,
As I said earlier, no disrespect but I'm sure it's not a spec issue - mine is pretty much the same as the others who have reported problems.
But in answer to your questions,
1. Yes 2. No. 3. No.
All drivers are the most current and recommended and I can see a noticable difference with other games so I know that they are working well and better than before.

Well, if your system is fine and plenty of other D3D and OpenGL games work perfectly, I would submit a crash dump to Empire Interactive. It'd still be nice to know your system spec.
