This is an unofficial safedisc fix under win2K & XP. Some CDRoms have problems with Safedisc and because there are so many Branded and Un-Branded units around, its hard to get drivers for all of 'em, and some Roms turn their noses up at IDE 1 & 2 controllers / Primary or Slave devices, and if you don't know what that means, read up on it.
Do a search online for 'windows 2000 safedisc fix.' Its 2 files replaced in your WINNT tree.
1.Iam or This work around is NOT from Sick Puppies or Empire, they will NOT support this, but it worked for me and many others who've had this problem on many games.
2.The fix is for 2000, but XP is 2000 with a few knobs on, and Ive heard that there is an XP fix available.
3. Back-up the original files first, that way if theres an Earth-Shattering KABOOM (Roll on Marvin the Martian), you can boot up in 'safe mode' and put it back together..
4. Follow any instructions that are given TO THE LETTER, dont be a clever arse. Readmes are there for a reason, Read 'em.
5. you do this at your own risk, I am only suggesting this as a work around for you, If Empire comeback to you with a better solution, go with theirs.
Macrovisions Safedisc has been around for a while now and its been cracked so many times on PC and Mac that theyre so paraniod about piracy that they keep changing its Encrypted digital signature in the disc, unfortunately CDRom manufactures cannot constantly release Firmware to read the encrytion, and Macrovision know this, but they keep updating the encryption signature and so the drives cant read the CD.. very frustrating.
Enjoy, coz this fix works.
Cheers
