You only get additional plasm if your score is higher than your current high score. Thats why it says "Gold Plasm (Additional) when you replay a level. You can't simply get more and more by replaying and getting a lower score (though it'd be nice).
So basically, the best way to get more is to go back and get 3 pumpkins (5x multiplier) on each level, which will give you a higher score and therefore more gold plasm.
Later levels have higher score possibilities (Because the you get more points for simply completing the level), so if you can manage a 2-3 pumpkin multiplier in those levels you should get quite a bit of extra plasm.
I think I got something like 3000 additional Gold Plasm when I went from a 1 pumpkin score to a 3 pumpkin score on Ghostbreakers, for instance, while on say Haunting 101 you only get maybe 500 additional, if that.
Ghostbreakers is probably one of the easiest Act III levels to get a 3 pumpkin on, once you learn the layout of the level and how to shut down everything. And you even get 3 freed haunters on revisits, just for doing the objectives.

Didn't the savegame editor have an option to edit the amount of Gold Plasm?

There is no way the savegame editor can ruin your computer, because:
- You have to put the files onto your computer manually (no installation). - Since there's no installation it doesn't install anything on your system (duh!). - The program only reads from/writes to files you specifically choose to open (other files are completely safe). - The editor files have been checked for viruses and other problems. None were found, so you can use the files without danger of infection/malfunction of your computer.
You can use the editor, gamefreak10000, trust me on that. It's perfectly safe as long as you remember to keep backups of your savegames (i.e. in case you choose the wrong option and ruin the savegame).

All right, let's get started then! - Download the Savegame Editor first. - Put the contents of the zip file in an folder. This can be any folder you want, but I suggest C:\Program Files\Empire Interactive\GhostMaster\Editor. - Double-click the program to launch it. Alternatively you can create a link to the program from your Desktop. This can be done by right-clicking the program and selecting Copy. Right-click again on your Windows Desktop and select Paste Shortcut. You can now use that shortcut to launch the program. At this point I could continue, but I think it might be better to just read ZZZsleep's explanation. Let me know if you have any further questions.
