Here is a short walkthrough for the "Blair Wisp Project" level:
First use a strong wind magic like Typhoon or multiple weak wind magics near the Blair Wisp to make the fog go away. Let the Blair Wisp use Hypnotic Image when the mortals are looking to him. Then when they are on the Blair Wisp's island, use Strange Vision.
Get the mortals to the campfire, by either casting Ice Breath or using an Obsession/Hypnotic Image ability. Equip Firetail to one of the mortal's and let it use Bonfire when near Sparkle.
Now get the tree over by using Quake, or Tremor and some small wind magic.
Bind Blair Wisp near the knocked down tree and let it use Hypnotic Image when they are looking to the area where Blair Wisp is. If you are having trouble getting the mortals to watch Blair Wisp, bind an Obsession/Siren Song ghost near the beginning of the lake. Then bench the ghosts when the mortals are near them. This will make them see Blair Wisp. Also watch out that if it takes to long for the mortals to get to the other side of the lake with lure magic, they will get scared because of the water.
When they are on the otherside, they will go over the tree. If they wont do this theirselves, use Obsession/Siren Song near the tree to get them back until they cross it. But DO NOT scare the mortals because this will make them run away!
When they are on the other side, make Darkling use Obsession magic! And tada!

Also, using Wild Geese or similar powers works a treat - if you don't have many haunters bound, there's a really good chance they will run (as they do when made to look at a haunter's fetter using Wild Geese) all the way to the Darkling!

Is there any way of budging the tree without having to use one of the ghosts like Banzai or if you don't have the Quake power? I can't seem to get that tree to fall

Whip up a storm - wind and rain. But you will scare the mortals away if you leave the storm running too long.

Nope - didn't forget. Distant Thunder makes a noise but does nothing else at all as far as I can see. Wind and Rain cause a storm which will make lightning strike the tree. Or just keep upping the wind speed - this should do the trick too. The best way is still to use Quake
