Sorry if this has already been mentioned, there are 832 threads contained on this section alone, and I haven't the time or the patients to go through them all.
We all know that Carter and his dog were meant to be freed in the [cut]Victorian Mansion, so it is no surprise that his banishment files are named Carter_8 and Carter_9 (Although this does mean that he was to have a fingers like puzzle) But there are other interesting file names worth talking about. Cogjammer's banishment files are 5 & 6 meaning that perhaps he wasn't a starter ghost when recording occurred. The Painter and Carter have only banishment files, named appropriately, but Hypnos, who by general consensuses was to be freed in the same scenario as Carter and The Painter has his full 1-5 set [1 = full explanation 2 = brief explanation 3 = Thank you 4 & 5 = banishment quotes] this could mean that the idea of having Hypnos as a bound spirit outlasted the Victorian Mansion level. Quiver has a proper(ish) file 1, asking for help(ish). He never states a reason he is bound, or a way to free him. His files skip to the banishment quotes without a break in numbering, which is odd. Soulscreech and Azrael have banishment quotes numbered 1 and 2, but nothing else. Lady rose is unsurprisingly missing 1-3 and the numbering skips to 4 & 5. She was to be freed on the Abysmal. Flash Jordan and Knuckles both have odd number 6 files, talking about the inability to posses someone i think, it's hard to tell without context because of their manner of speech. Arclight has two extra banishment quotes, but neither he or blue murder have possession failure quotes. Arclight also has an odd phrase "This body will do for now! But I burn em' out pretty fast, so keep em' coming." The Darkling has a few odd quotes I haven't heard before, but given that I can hardly understand him, I won't write them here. The final interesting thing I found is that Trisha is called Mirage in all her game files, but Trisha in the game.

Darkling lines are from Full Mortal Jacket scenario. He is talking something about finding tape for summoning (That round tape used by students in Blair Wisp Cabin). Probably after BWP, doctor has taken Darkling with a tape to military base which was also secret laboratory (unused scenario name Ghost in the Military Machine and Soulscreech being government scientists experiment suggest that). I cannot find better explanation for this texts.

A little update on Carter, sound file 9 is a banishment file, "Banish me?!? Do you know who I am?!", but 8 is not "I'm finished with this fool, Who's next?" His second one sounds a bit like Arclight's odd quote. Perhaps Carter was a ghost who needed to use possession to get free? If we can get a catalog of all the phrases in the game, we may be able to put together specifics about puzzles. unfortunately, without Carter's 1 - 7 sound files, all we have are small clues. It would be nice if one of the Dev team still had these cut files somewhere. Things like that don't just get deleted.

You can try to open xbox and ps2 files. There are tone of leftovers. In xbox version I found bsp ripper logs.
Most of alpha/beta stuff I'm finding in console editions of games, because most of the time they don't care about cleaning stuff from project.

Darkling subtitles from the english.ut8 file: Blair Wisp section TEXT_SP_DARKLING_1 "Bring me more souls, more delicate morsels to sate the cyclopean appetite of the Darkling. Such tiny minds must be easy to herd… Upon reaching this place they shall leave never more." TEXT_SP_DARKLING_2 "Bring them to me, let darkness consume their pitiful existences. Dark destiny will not be denied this day!" TEXT_SP_DARKLING_3 "Freedom! Now the mortal world will be wracked by my dread power!" TEXT_SP_DARKLING_4 "Wait! What treachery is this…? Noooooooo…..!"
What Lies over Nest TEXT_SP_DARKLING_5 "This mortal fool, who purports to worship my majesty - as if I desire the fealty of the worms of the earth…! - has bound me within this mystic apparatus. Perchance he seeks to pervert my power to his own megalomaniac ends. The mortal world shall be consumed by my dark dominion - but I shall not have my sovereignty threatened by these accursed beams that snare me." TEXT_SP_DARKLING_6 "The fool thinks his ambition unconquerable, his person unique… disrupt the beams that I may be free to exact unutterable revenge!" TEXT_SP_DARKLING_7 "The foolish mortal's plans unravel, as shall all who dare limit their trembling in my austere presence! Yet the beams still function. Are they powered by those broken minds I sense beneath me?" TEXT_SP_DARKLING_8 "Such premeditated indignity must be repaid in wrathful spite - I, the Darkling, the quintessential avatar of the putrescent abyss of mortal iniquity, shall feast upon the succulent sweatmeats of their sanity and suck out all the marrow of their souls!" TEXT_SP_DARKLING_9 "You are spared for now, tiny mortal - but I will have your soul." TEXT_SP_DARKLING_10 "What? Defeated? Can this be?"
Full Mortal Jacket TEXT_SP_DARKLING_11 "So close! My form is pressed against the very skin of this reality! I would break through, to feed upon these petty creatures who writhe in self-created pits of stagnant, impotent emotion! My summoning was recorded upon a primitive data storage device in the form of images and sounds - if this ritual can be replayed, my summoning will be complete!" TEXT_SP_DARKLING_12 "Find the cassette that contains my summoning and use it to complete the ritual!" TEXT_SP_DARKLING_13 "Finally! Freedom is mine! A whole world to ravage, and countless scurrying, honey-sweet souls to taste!

What this tells me, is that the Darkling was to be recaptured at the end of What flew over the cuckoo's nest, and to be truly released at the end of Full Mortal Jacket, meaning that FMJ was to be after WFOTCN. With at least trainspooking afterwards. I think that Darkling 10 is also used for the banishment quote, should you get him banished in Class of Spook'em high. The cassette was taken from Summoners and/or Blair whisp project. The Darkling would need to have this tape moved into a tape player in his room. we should take a closer look at FMJ and see if we can find where it would be. (Why would you keep a cassette player near the evil spirit who requires one to be freed? or keeping the cassette tape on the same base as the uber powerful uber evil spirit?)

Military base is much smaller than in beta version, here is old screen www32.zippyshare.com/v/KOaC8KVU/file.html In the corner is sketch from level selection screen. In text file are deleted bios, 'MM' probably means 'Military Machine' scenario but now it doesn't make sense if Darkling should be in FMJ. Devs didn't have time to finish enemy ghosts, so 'Machine' with Azrael was deleted and Darkling moved to FMJ. Now FMJ and 'What lies over' are very similar and close to each over because of deleting many scenarios. That would be pointless to do ritual in WLoCN and just after that in FMJ, so now hospital is final level and FMJ is just normal 'scare everyone' because game is very short and there wasn't time to make something original //TEXT_MM_MAD_PERSON_A_BIO "TEXT_MM_MAD_PERSON_A_BIO" //TEXT_MM_MAD_PERSON_F_BIO "TEXT_MM_MAD_PERSON_F_BIO" //TEXT_MM_MAD_PERSON_G_BIO "TEXT_MM_MAD_PERSON_G_BIO" //TEXT_MM_MAD_PERSON_H_BIO "TEXT_MM_MAD_PERSON_H_BIO" //TEXT_MM_MAD_SCIENTIST_BIO "TEXT_MM_MAD_SCIENTIST_BIO" //TEXT_MM_MIB_AGENT_B_BIO "TEXT_MM_MIB_AGENT_B_BIO" //TEXT_MM_WATCHER_A_BIO "TEXT_MM_WATCHER_A_BIO" //TEXT_MM_WATCHER_B_BIO "TEXT_MM_WATCHER_B_BIO" //TEXT_MM_WATCHER_C_BIO "TEXT_MM_WATCHER_C_BIO" //TEXT_MM_WATCHER_D_BIO "TEXT_MM_WATCHER_D_BIO" //TEXT_MM_WATCHER_E_BIO "TEXT_MM_WATCHER_E_BIO" //TEXT_MM_LAB_OP_D_BIO "TEXT_MM_LAB_OP_D_BIO" //TEXT_MM_LAB_OP_E_BIO "TEXT_MM_LAB_OP_E_BIO" //TEXT_MM_LAB_OP_F_BIO "TEXT_MM_LAB_OP_F_BIO" //TEXT_MM_POLICE_E_BIO "TEXT_MM_POLICE_E_BIO"
